The Lower East Side is rocking! Has been for quite some time. While the music venues are not as plentiful as they once were, there are some gems downtown.

One of our favorites is the Bowery Ballroom; which showcases all sorts of live music in an awesome building to boot. The venue was built before the 1929 stock market crash and appears exactly how you think it does. Bowery Ballroom is also a pseudo celeb, appearing in the 2000 film Coyote Ugly as well as the 2008 film Nick and Norah’s Infinite Playlist.

Now for the reason to go there! Music, of course! Have you heard of Arca? No? We’ll tell you!

Arca is a Venezuelan-born London artist, whose full name is Alejandro Ghersi. He is a consultant, mixing engineer and DJ based in Dalston and recently released his own album, “Xen.” Right in line with millennials tastes, its vocals and beats come from an influence of what modern electronic music and hip hop brings. Arca also has worked on nine Björk’s studio albums. Not bad for a 20 year old. Oh yea, by the way, he is also associated with Kanye West if you’re into that sort of thing. Go for the venue or go for Arca. The Bowery Ballroom is where it’s at!
