It’s time for Greenport’s Shellabration, an annual celebration of the North Fork region’s excellent shellfish. The 6th Shellabration is on schedule for December 2nd and 3rd, from noon until 4 pm. You buy a wristband for $5.00 plates of seafood paired with $3.00 selections of wine or beer. The wristbands also entitle participants to special promotions and discounts from local merchants that are available for the duration of the event.  While Shellabrating, take the opportunity to do some holiday shopping in the many fine boutiques, antique shops and galleries that make Greenport Santa’s Favorite Seaport.

North Fork is part of the Long Island wine country, where you can sample the exceptional wines of Long Island with local seafood. The Restaurant Walk is an annual village of Greenport event, in one of New York’s most historic maritime villages. The Walk is a favorite with locals and visitors, and a delight for the Foodie. The charming village features dozens of boutiques and shops specializing in antiques, unique clothing and accessories, jewelry and gifts, home decor, and wine and spirits.

The Greenport Shellabration offers visitors the chance to visit several of the North Fork restaurants over the two days of the event. The free first sample tasting will feature a selection from Greenport Harbor Brewing Company and a tasting of locally grown oysters and clams from the Peconic Bay at Greenport Harbor Ale and Little Creek Oysters. Your free samples are available when you pick up your wristbands and the tour map of the participating restaurants at Greenport Harbor Brewing Co and Little Creek Oysters.

The village is one of the area’s thriving craft beer communities and has some of Long Island’s best chefs. The culinary skills of Greenport’s chefs and the freshly harvested seafood from local waters make this a special event. Local wineries and breweries are paired with some of the best restaurants in town to offer visitors tapas-sized portions of their shellfish delicacies. The fresh shellfish is enhanced by the beer or wine that it’s paired with. During the Greenport Shellabration, local merchants offer promotions and special deals. Clams, scallops, oysters, wine, ale, and beer are all featured at the event.

Greenport’s Restaurant Walk is the perfect way for a Foodie to enjoy delicious, local seafood and Long’s Island’s exceptional wines, ale, and beer. The event is held each year to support Cornell University’s Cooperative Extension Marine Programs, especially the Suffolk Project in Aquaculture Training and the Back to the Bays Initiative.

We would like to stress that advance ticket sales are recommended as the event sells out each year.  We urge prospective participants to double check the eventbrite ticket link (https://shellabration2017.eventbrite.com) or the Facebook page (https://www.facebook.com/GreenportShellabrationLI) prior to making the trip out to Greenport. The event curators will be posting when tickets sell out.  We do not want you to be turned away after you’ve made a trip in from the city or elsewhere!

Finally, remember to check out Cornell University’s Cooperative Extension Marine Programs website at ccesuffolk.org/marine to check out what this event supports.

See you this weekend!
