Young James Blake blew up last year thanks to three post-dubstep EPs that found as much favor with UK heroes Untold and Distance as they did with indie bloggers. His eponymous album seemed like a letdown after all that hype–but we tend to think that his subtle oeuvre just takes some patience to fully appreciate. The classically trained and Goldsmiths-educated producer draws on a childhood love of gospel (and a contemporary fascination with everything from Feist to FWD>>) to sculpt futuristic r&b that just might stand the test of time. If not, well, as DJ Bombe showed, it pairs nicely with Drake.
