Comic-Con: Beyond Sci-fi

NY- just when I think there is nothing more left to love about the matrix that surrounds this concrete jungle – enter Comic-Con.

That’s right folks – get your Sci-fi, Japanese Anime,Comic-book loving tuckus off the couch and enter the Javits Center for a four-day epic convention extravaganza.

A few days prior to the event, it felt as if your writer struck gold double-time as the official pass and Wonder Woman costume (that’s right- go big or stay home) arrived on the same day.

While gazing around and trying to adjust the trillion of fans occupying every square inch of the Convention Center, we run into tons of people dressed up as different favorite characters. These include and are not limited to Yoda, Darth Vader, Inuyasha, Hellboy, and so much more.

Let us not forget the pedigree of classic heroines and heroes that parade through: Catwoman, Storm, She-Ra, Lara Croft, Momoko Akastutsumi, Barbarella, Andromeda (DC & Marvel), and Crimson Fox. Yes, Superman, Captain America, Thor, Iron man, Batman, Spider man- and his second alter ego – Scarlet Spider-man, come out to play as well.

During the course of the weekend, we also attend some very interesting and exciting panels held by Dark Horse Comics, DC, Marvel, Nickelodeon, Cartoon Network, and TNT. We also receive some “hush-hush-top secret” insider scoop on upcoming character changes, and transitional comic book cross-overs occurring within the next couple of years.

As if this experience could not any better – it did. While strolling through the maze of aisles, we run into Graig Weich – the genius behind Gekido comics.

Stop scratching your head while trying to search for a connection because it’s evident he is quite famous for an abundant of reasons.

Should you remain confused, Graig has worked with Coco (from the show: Ice-T loves Coco) to create “Cleo,” and Adrienne Curry – former America’s Next Model ( as “Tricity”). In the past, Adrienne dressed up us “Aeon Flux” – bringing back memories of (personal favorites), fiercely independent, bad-ass, take-no-prisoners, zero-tolerance, eccentric, my-way-or-the-highway handful of heroines classics that filled up the late night television agenda during the 20^th century.

Comic-Con is a constant reminder to live life to the fullest, be happy, and worry less of what the world thinks of you while openly marching towards the inner hero and/or heroine that lives within us.
