We already know that discovering and experiencing everything New York is damn near impossible. What can really blow your mind is when you’re in a certain neighborhood and have a completely different experience every single time you visit. Last week, this happened while I was in the West Village and created my very own ‘Jazz Tour’. This included stops to many places that I had already been such as the Village Vanguard, Blue Note, Fat Cat (personal vote for one of NYC’s most interesting) and Arthur’s Tavern. The experience this time was different because we did them all in one night. I’m definitely not the music connoisseur but I did learn how many different ways that jazz is presented and how many different ways that it can sound. I guess I never picked up on this since I was at one off shows.
Now that I am on my jazz kick, I am looking for any excuse to see some live music. I am also looking for any excuse not to be in a jazz setting (dingy, dark and basementy) in the middle of July. This is why I am so excited for Sunset Cocktails and Live Jazz Lincoln Center Rooftop! The event takes place on Monday evening at the Empire Rooftop and features art and jazz by Stephane Wrembel. If you don’t know Wrembel, perhaps you heard his music in Midnight in Paris or Vicky Cristina Barcelona (how fitting for you Woody Allen fans). To top it off, they’re having some great drink specials for the event including $5/$6 Domestic/Imported Beers, $8 Well drinks & Select Wines and $10 Cosmos. It’s free to join, just RSVP here!
This should be a great event with a great crowd for a diverse set of interests. I know that I am looking forward to it…
