While we certainly do not have a skill set for dancing, we sure do love to watch it and pretend like we can move. Whether it’s standing in the corner at a nightclub or wedding or watching Dancing with the Stars or So You Think You Can Dance, we love dancing! I mean, Saturday Night Fever is our favorite movie…come on!
We just found out that there is an actual cabaret season! We also just heard that the high point of the season is in effect! In fact, the Mabel Mercer Foundation is producing a four marathon evening concerts at Jazz at Lincoln Center’s Rose Theater.
Lincoln Center is great but dance is better. The two combined makes us fall off our seat!
The opening show, “I Love a Piano,” hosted by the jazz violin whiz and comic wit Aaron Weinstein, celebrates the tradition of the singing pianist. Its roster of 16 acts includes Jason Robert Brown, Barbara Carroll, Nellie McKay and Steve Ross. The following evening, “Quiet Please, There’s a Lady Onstage” brings a tribute to the great dramatic singer Julie Wilson on the occasion of her 90th birthday. The concert, hosted by KT Sullivan, features Christine Andreas, Lauren Fox, Marilyn Maye and T. Oliver Reid. The third night, “Something Sort of Grandish,” hosted by Jeff Harnar and Andrea Marcovicci, showcases the songs of Burton Lane and E.Y. Harburg sung by Karen Akers, Eric Comstock, Gabrielle Stravelli and Billy Stritch.
Sounds pretty awesome, right? Now stop reading and dance!
