How was your weekend? Did you come out of your shell? We sure hope so. The grind that is Monday to Friday between 9 and at least five can keep you in your shell and away from coming alive. That was NOT the case this past weekend in Greenport, NY — the North Fork.
We were coming out of our shell all weekend long and Shellabrating! If you didn’t read our preview piece then allow us to give you the highlights so that you can make your plans for next year. It was the Fifth Annual and judging by the upward trajectory year after year, we’re fairly confident that there will be a sixth annual in December 2017. We know, its a while away but totally worth circling the calendar in advance. Afterall, it did sell out so think ahead!
The day starts off with a beer an oyster and a clam. That may sound like a strange movie but its the beginning of an excellent weekend. Check in is at the Little Creek Oysters or Greenport Harbor Brewery — both ready to serve you a beer, an oyster and a clam after you check in. The only way to get ready for the weekend that is to come.
There were 18 different stops on the tour and each had their own unique shellfish on the menu. The price was affordable — $5 for each plate and $3 for your booze — wine and beer perfectly paired with the dish being served.
To give you a taste (no pun intended), the event included delicious dishes like Peconic Gold Osyters and Baked Local Clams at Noah’s, Scallop Ceviche served in the shell at Basso Cicchetti e Specialita, Oysters Cuvée from Cuvée Seafood at The Greenporter Hotel and Grille paired with Raphael wine, Lucharitos’ Fried Oyster Tacos with Mustache Brewing Co. beer, and Peconic Bay Scallop Corn Chowder from Deep Water Bar and Grille paired with Osprey’s Dominion wine and Twin Fork Beer Co. beer. Oh, and don’t forget the clam chowder from Scrimshaw or the full blown awesome menu (and service) from Front Street Station.
It was a glorious day. Whether you’re part of the summer crowd, a day tripper or a local, Shellabration gave you the chance to check out all of the restaurants you want to taste in one weekend — without breaking the bank. Our team is already making reservations for several restaurants that we want to explore further.
Shellabration was more than a showcase; it is your opportunity to meet Greenport. And for that, we are greatful. We’ll be there next summer and more importantly, next December for their sixth installment.
