With the weather changing, we are certainly in the thick of fall and summer is something we are looking forward to in 2023. We welcome everything including the crisp weather, Pumpkin Spiced Lattes and parades! October is the month of the Columbus Day Parade!
In its 78th year, the parade will take place on Monday, October 10th from 11:30AM to 3:30PM. Secure a spot along Manhattan’s Fifth Avenue for a family-friendly celebration filled with colorful floats and rousing musical performances. The parade honors Italian-Americans’ contributions to New York City and draws around million spectators and 35,000 marchers. The parade travels from 44th Street to 72nd Street and marching bands will perform along its length, and there’s also a “red carpet” area between 67th and 69th Streets for stage acts—special passes are needed to get up close.
The event is hosted by the Columbus Citizens Foundation which recognizes the incredible impact that Italian heritage has had on the lives of New Yorkers and its contribution to individual successes. The Columbus Citizens Foundation dedicates themselves to preserving and enhancing the culture, traditions and values of the Italian culture. Furthermore, they commit to honor those that came before by ensuring that their love of country, family and tireless work ethic are passed to our children and all future generations. The organization firmly commits to raising and distributing financial aid to educate children in need and pledge to extend ourselves in perpetuating the philanthropic work that has been synonymous with the Foundation.
The Columbus Citizens Foundation is a non-profit organization in New York City committed to fostering an appreciation of Italian American heritage and achievement. The Foundation, through a broad range of philanthropic and cultural activities, provides opportunities for advancement to deserving Italian American students through various scholarship and grant programs. The Foundation organizes New York City’s annual Columbus Day Parade, which has celebrated Italian-American heritage on New York’s Fifth Avenue since 1929.
