With Summer unofficially coming to an end, our city come back to life. Slowly but surely, the fall will usher in a slew of events that you won’t want to miss. One of the first events post-summer that happens every year is New York Fashion Week. As people return from beaches ready to hit the town, Fashion Week is there to guide us on how to dress. With that, comes all things fall that we can’t wait to discuss in the coming weeks!

This week is about fashion. And we can’t talk about fashion without talking about the Garment District! Sure, its not what it was and there’s probably only a handful of industry places left but the stories remain in the streets. Its deep rooted and we love it.  To make things more interesting, a series of ornate, illuminated lanterns are now sparkling above the Garment District in the heart of Midtown Manhattan as part of the Garment District Alliance’s latest public art installation, New Start, New Hope. Located on the Broadway plazas between 36th and 39th Streets, the free installation created by local artist Xin Song will be available to the public through January 2025. In addition to enhancing the overall pedestrian experience, New Start, New Hope invites city-goers to pause and revel in a moment of tranquil reflection amidst the hustle and bustle that surrounds them.

New Start, New Hope is a recipient of NYC Small Business Services’ first-ever funding for Commercial District Lighting projects, a new grant program to fund CBDO’s to address lighting improvements through creative lighting projects on commercial corridors. The installation is a part of Garment District Art on the Plazas, a year-round public art program made possible through NYC Department of Transportation Art (NYC DOT Art). The Garment District Alliance and NYC DOT Art work closely to coordinate and install exhibits and individual pieces, which enhance public plazas and make them even more welcoming to New Yorkers and visitors.

You don’t want to miss this and there is no better way to usher in the fall paying homage to fashion!
