“Picasso in Paris” delves into the hidden narrative of Pablo Picasso’s fight for both artistic and personal survival during the Nazi occupation of Paris.
The Broadway bound event is scheduled for April 14th at 9:30 PM at 54 Below, Broadway’s Supper Club. The cast includes Philip Hernández (Les Misérables, Kiss of the Spider Woman), Katerina McCrimmon (Fanny Brice, Funny Girl U.S. Tour), Rachel Rice (Disney’s Mary Poppins at Casa Mañana), William Ryall (Wicked, The Gilded Age), Tommy Schrider (War Horse), Michael Burrell (An American in Paris International Tour), Elizabeth Nestlerode (The Other Josh Cohen), and Pearl Scarlett Gold (Urinetown at NY City Center, Leopoldstadt).
The concert will feature a diverse score that combines jazz, classical, and wartime themes, reflecting the spirit of an artist fighting against oppression with his sole weapon—his art. This event is inspired by a significant historical find—the rediscovery of a lost Picasso artwork, “The Lost Dove,” a delicate yet impactful piece created in 1942 on the reverse side of a Vichy French banknote, serving as both a protest against fascism and a symbol of hope. Forensic DNA analysis has indicated traces of blood believed to be Picasso’s own, marking this as a remarkable revelation in the art world. To honor this historic and artistic breakthrough, Sir Kenneth Hawkins and Aruba Productions are bringing the essence of Picasso’s Paris to life through this captivating musical event.
