@ The Stephen Sondheim Theatre – 124 W. 43rd Street

Sutton Foster has some big tap shoes to fill as she takes on the role of Reno Sweeney, a nightclub singer on an ocean liner, in this Cole Porter classic. The legendary Ethel Merman originated the role in 1934, and Patti LuPone followed in the 1987 revival. But Foster, having starred in Thoroughly Modern Millie and The Drowsy Chaperone, is no stranger to the spotlight, and director-choreographer Kathleen Marshall, who won a Tony for The Pajama Game, is hewing close to the flashy original (with songs like “I Get a Kick Out of You,” “All Through the Night” and “You’re the Top,” can you blame her?). As if that isn’t exhilarating enough, relative newcomer Colin Donnell, who plays one of the young lovers, is the stuff Broadway heartthrobs are made of.
