at House of Vans (25 Franklin Street, Brooklyn)

With 20 years of aggressive, chaotic underground hardcore to their name, Converge are a menacing group to be headlining a show at this pop-up skate park. Each of the group’s seven full-lengths showcases a unique combination of frontman Jacob Bannon’s wounded-animal howls and guitarist Kurt Ballou’s dissonant string abuse (yes, these are compliments), and this is Converge’s last concert before beginning work on a new paean to punishment, a fact that underscores the urgency of tonight’s show. Were things not tense enough, the first opener is an equally angry sounding ensemble called All Pigs Must Die, who will be followed by the comparatively out-of-place synth-pop of Cold Cave.
