We’re in the thick of Spring and with that comes the day we start our gardens and commemorate mothers and motherhood. Don’t give us any of that ‘every day is Mother’s Day’ nonsense. It’s a big deal and not a ‘Hallmark Holiday’ as it often gets accused of.
The holiday can be traced back to the ancient Greeks and Romans, who held festivals in honor of the mother goddesses Rhea and Cybele, but the clearest modern precedent for Mother’s Day is the early Christian festival known as “Mothering Sunday.” T can be traced back to the ancient Greeks and Romans, who held festivals in honor of the mother goddesses Rhea and Cybele, but the clearest modern precedent for Mother’s Day is the early Christian festival known as “Mothering Sunday.”
Now do you believe us? Take the time and make the momma in your life feel special. Lucky for us, we have New York City to assist in making that happen.
You don’t have to break the bank. That’s probably not what your momma is looking for. Spend some time outside, check out of the botanical gardens we have. Maybe treat her to an outdoor movie night in Fort Greene, Brooklyn.
Some other ideas to share the special day include all the museum’s our city has to offer. Maybe the Met on the heels of the world-famous gala? Or even the Met Breuer as it is much more manageable with kids.
If all else fails, there is always the standard Mother’s Day Brunch. We won’t make a fuss over one venue or another as pretty much every restaurant on the island will be offering a special menu. If the weather permits, maybe a picnic in the Park?
As you can see, we just rattled off many options from the top of our head. The point is often not the what but the why. Make her feel special and Happy Mother’s Day to you Mommas!
