If you’re like us and work in midtown, then you probably start to think about lunch around 10AM and spend entirely way too much time racking your brain where to eat because you’re sick of the Bread and Butters, Cafe Metros, Lenny’s Sandwiches, Pret A Mangers, and Potbelly’s. Sure, Chipotle is awesome but that line is absurd and your afternoon is spent in a food coma. We’ve been on a real food truck kick and the abundance of options is keeping the tour going. One of the best ways to figure out which food truck you’re going to hit is to check out their twitter page. They usually tell you where they’re parked (very important), how long the line is, and what specials they have. Listed below are five of our favorites in no particular order. We included their twitter handles so you can follow them and hopefully grab a delicious (and different) lunch starting today! Don’t forget to mention us when you hit the Twitterverse!
For us, it all started with Eddie’s Pizza Truck (@EddiesPizzaNY). We’ve been to the shop in New Hyde Park and experienced their delicious, awesome and one of a kind bar pie and never forgot it. When we saw the truck, we didn’t expect the same quality (silly us) and were so surprised we now follow them all over twitter like a bunch of stalkers.
Next up is Kogi (@kogibbq). They serve Tacos and Korean BBQ. Seriously, this truck is awesome! You need to check it out…Anything you get is outstanding.
If you’re not into meat, don’t worry, there are options for you! The Cinnamon Snail (@VeganLunchTruck) calls themselves the country’s most raunchy mobile Vegan Organic restaurant! They have a full gamut of cuisines vegetarian and vegan delicacies available. The only downside here is the line…we’re still trying to figure out how early/late to go.
Speaking of lines, don’t be scared by Uncle Gussy’s (@UncleGussys) line. They’re a staple at 51st and Park and one of the best Greek spots in midtown (SLEEPER!). The line is insane but you can place an order on their website for pickup or delivery!
This piece would not be complete without mentioning The Halal Guys (@TheHalalGuys). Owning the corner of 53rd and 6th and living the American Dream with a deal to open more than 100 stores, this is the real deal street meat. Wait in line and experience the crowd and deliciousness. It’s worth it (especially after midnight).
While this snapshot of food trucks is a great start, we encourage you to check out more and don’t be turned off by street meat. You’ll be surprised what you find! Check their twitter accounts and explore!
Have fun!
