@ St. Luke’s Theatre – 308 W. 46th Street

Regional theater powerhouse Miche Braden sings the blues in this musical, which imagines the final day in the life of 1920s diva Bessie Smith, “The Empress of Blues.” The Devil’s Music highlights 15 songs from Smith’s repertoire, including classics like “Need a Little Sugar in My Bowl” and “Nobody Knows You When You’re Down and Out,” to tell her life story—from her Tennessee childhood, to her time as the highest-paid black performer of her era, to her untimely death.
