You don’t need us to convince you that Thanksgiving is one of, if not, the most special holiday for us Americans. If you’re not an American, this is a good day to pretend.
There are no responsibilities, no gifts to give, no pretending that you love gifts you received, no anxiety of last minute shopping; heck, if you’re not cooking and preparing to host a party, all you need to do is show up!
The day is filled with pure gluttony…Eating all the turkey you can, digesting enough tryptophan to put you into a sleepy haze while you’re crazy uncle tells your his war stories. Then there’s the booze…Drink til you get that nice hazy look in your eyes, plant yourself in front of a TV for the parade (although, if you’re in a food coma this early, you might have other issues) or most likely, football. With the modern era and three games, you can stay there all day!
If you’re more motivated than us, then you’ll actually be at the parade! We took the liberty of doing some research for you. To get the best view of the parade, Macy’s suggests getting to the following areas as early as possible:
Central Park West – Anywhere along Central Park West from 77th Street to Columbus Circle should give you a great view.
Central Park South at Sixth Avenue – As the parade makes its way from Columbus Circle you can catch a great view from this area as it turns down 6th Avenue.
If you can’t make it to Central Park West, the next best spot would be anywhere along Sixth Avenue from 59th Street to 38th Street.
NOTE: There will be limited viewing areas on Sixth Avenue between 34th Street and 38th Street due to television coverage.
