It’s film festival season in New York and there is no shortage of great films to check out.  The New York Film Festival is happening right now and while that has been a centerpiece of New York film culture since 1963, we are not going to focus on that today. While we plan to attend and be introduced to the most essential new cinematic works from around the world, we are focused on a different festival – The Greek Film Expo.

The event is brought to you by the Hellenic Film Society USA who is dedicated to promoting Greek cinema throughout the United States. Their mission is to share the richness of Greek films with a wider American audience, to showcase Greek movies, and to preserve the film heritage of Greece. As we can attest, there are some gems that will be showcased that we cannot wait to see!

Founded by Jimmy DeMetro and a team of devoted cinephiles with a long track record of presenting Greek films in the US, the Hellenic Film Society was established to expand the reach of Greek film beyond a single annual festival in New York.

The festival gives you the opportunity to see the latest, award-winning films from Greece and a retrospective of the acclaimed director, screenwriter and actor, Renos Haralambidis. Talk to the directors after their screenings. And check out their talks and parties!  It’s all happening from Thursday, October 5th – Sunday, October 15th at locations in Manhattan (Village East Cinema Second Ave at 12th St, New York, NY 10003), New Jersey (Barrymore Film Center 153 Main St, Fort Lee, NJ 07024) and Astoria (Museum of the Moving Image 35th Ave at 37 St, Astoria, NY 11106).

New York Greek Film Expo 2023 is made possible with support from Metaxa, the Greek National Tourism Organization, ConnectOne Bank, NYWIFT (New York Women in Film & Television), the Greek Film Centre, the Consulate General of Greece, the New York City Council and Queens Borough President Donovan Richards.
