If you spent any time during your youth wandering the West Village and stopping into establishments to capture the feeling that your frat house gave you then you remember Fat Cat. The basement venue went late and included everything from ping pong, pool, shuffleboard, foosball, checkers, chess, and even live jazz! It was a one stop shop that left you no reason to leave. We’re not sure the last time you tried to go to the Fat Cat, but it has since closed. Don’t fret, its back! It just looks a little bit different and there’s a dog associated with the space instead of a cat.

Well, that’s not completely true. The venue has been reimagined beyond the new name. Cellar Dog as it will be called is now open and will feature new games, old games, and of course pong, shuffle, scrabble, chess, and live jazz!

We’re told that Cellar Dog will keep the quirky ambiance alive with restored historic furniture familiar to the space, though major renovations have also taken place. Cellar Dog has also installed purifying air filters, contactless ordering, updated restrooms with touchless hand dryers, Apple pay option and more.

To eat, Cellar Dog offers a casual menu with small bites like movie theater-style nachos, grandma-style pizza, pretzels, and custom ice cream. Wine, seltzers, and a variety of beers on tap will be served to drink.

“We are thrilled to continue the legacy of the former Fat Cat, which is located steps away from Stonewall Inn and some of the greatest literary, entertainment, political and cultural moments in our City’s history,” said Arthur Backal, CEO of Backal Hospitality Group, the Owner of the space.

We’re constantly looking to our youth for the best memories. We’re sure this will do it for us.
