We’re New Yorkers and love all things our city has to offer. It’s the reason we do what we do. We get to explore and satisfy the curiosity inside of everyone on our staff. For this reason, we are drawn to offbeat events. And when we say offbeat, it can be your local street performer or Off Broadway play. For this piece, we’ll be talking about the latter.
While Off Broadway doesn’t have the notoriety that Broadway shows have, it doesn’t mean that its any less work and any less time involved to produced. In fact, we often see incredible performances from Off Broadway shows. And that was the case on East 15th Street when we stepped inside Martin and Irene’s honeymoon suite. No, the show was not in a hotel but the Vineyard Theatre is such an intimate setting that you may as well be in their room, where the play starts.
Martin thinks he has just married the girl of his dreams and ready to consummate the marriage — right in front of us. It’s very obvious that Irene is not ready to seal the deal. In fact, she makes a shocking confession that sets the stage for what is a very real and true performance.
Nicky Silver’s new comedy about love and marriage and everything in-between will hit home, no matter where you are in your relationship. We all make decisions and choices that have long-term impacts and this play exposes them all. Mr. Silver makes light of the situation to say the least. We’re saying that you’ll be chuckling for the duration of the show.
This Day Forward starts at the St. Regis in 1958 and ends nearly 50 years later when Irene’s children wrestle with their past and a mother whose secrets are quickly fading along with her memory.
The show does not have many days left so we suggest you book your tickets now! It’s a journey through love, truth and life. You will not be disappointed. This Day Forward is playing at the Vineyard Theatre through December 18th. For more information and tickets, visit the Vineyard Theatre’s website.
