We don’t talk about events and happenings in Long Island enough and are ready to make that our New Year’s resolution. There are a ton of fun events that happen outside of the city and we’re not just talking about heading Out East on summer weekends. We often take for granted the nautical themes that Long Island offers and just how damn beautiful it is. One of the events that we look forward to all year round involved heading to the North Fork. Yes, it’s become a hot destination as of late and people flock for the vineyards; however, that is not what we are referring to. We are talking about a food event that involved the Long Island wines and is all done for a great cause.  This event of course is Shellabration!

Shellabration is an annual culinary celebration that showcases local shellfish and benefits Cornell Cooperative Extension Marine Program’s SPAT Program and Back to the Bays Initiative. 2022 Greenport Shellabration marks the 11th anniversary Shellabrating with their supporters! It is traditionally held the first weekend of December in Greenport Village and has been enjoyed by thousands of “Shellabrants” through the years. We have been attending this event for years and can’t wait to do it all over again. Sure, it’s not the secret that it once was but the North Fork of Long Island is gorgeous and offers so much that you’ll forget the city!

This year, there are 3 Official Shellabration Check in Locations: Little Creek Oysters, First & South, and Greenport Harbor Brewery (Greenport location, not Peconic!). You may pick up your wristbands from any of these three locations. We mention this because in addition to enjoying all things culinary and drink, it’s a great opportunity to explore Greenport and see everything it has to offer. You know, for those summer weekends!  Cheers and Happy Shellabrating!
