@ Anthology Film Archives – 32 Second Avenue

Though there are always exceptions, the job of the screenwriter is mostly a thankless one of long solitary hours and little professional glory. But no longer! In an effort to bring these poor forgotten souls into the spotlight, Anthology Film Archives presents a new series titled “From the Pen of,” which focuses on the work of uncelebrated screenwriters from the past 50 years. The series kicks off with the early works of John Sayles, who crafted many a bizarre script before moving into directing. Tonight at 7, catch The Howling (1981), which follows a reporter to a remote rehab center . . . that just so happens to be populated by werewolves. The highlight of the program is on Friday, when Sayles will be on hand for a discussion following the screening of Breaking In (1989), starring Burt Reynolds as a veteran thief who takes a rookie crook under his wing.
