@ Lehmann Maupin – 201 Chrystie Street

From his strange, washed-out celebrity portraits for Marc Jacobs (remember Victoria Beckham’s bare legs sticking out of a giant shopping bag?) to shocking fashion photography for publications such as I-D and Purple, Juergen Teller has made his career on knowing how to surprise us. His new exhibit at Lehmann Maupin, which opens today, covers both the fashion side of his career as well as his personal life. Divided into three parts, the show includes the controversial nude portraits of the androgynous model Kristen McMenamy (some called them pornographic); recent photographs taken at his home in Suffolk of the landscape and his family and friends; and, for a series titled “Men and Women,” portraits of photographer
William Eggleston and designer Vivienne Westwood.
