We make a very conscious effort not to take all that our wonderful city has to offer for granted. That includes everything from our world class restaurants, museums, history and even amusement parks. With the pandemic, we have not lost sight of what New York has to offer but as things have reopened, we have been refocusing our attention in different areas. In some ways, it has been as exciting as the first time we’ve experienced these activities and that adds another element to an already special city.
With the continued decreases in the infection and hospitalization rates, Governor Andrew M. Cuomo announced that beginning Friday, April 9, outdoor amusement parks can reopen with a 33 percent capacity limit and additional safety measures in place. That means that Luna Park in Coney Island gets to reopen! That comes along with 6 new attractions geared towards our youngest guests and to continue the Coney Island tradition of seaside thrills and fun!
Coney Island is one of the most special places in our city and we don’t ever forget that it’s just a short subway ride away. It’s our own version of the cookie cutter amusement parks around the world and comes with everything that is New York and makes it unique to us.
“The Coney Island amusement rides are synonymous with summer in Brooklyn, and their closure last year was a painful blow for all of us,” said Brooklyn Borough President Eric Adams. “We are thrilled to see the amusement district come back better than ever, which will revitalize the local economy and allow visitors to enjoy the unique attractions with their friends and families.”
So, after 18 months, the Coney Island cyclone is coming back to life once again and another landmark, Deno’s Wonder Wheel, also welcomed riders back. These attractions closed back in October 2019 and never opened last year because of COVID-19. That is in our rearview mirror and we are looking forward to riding the Cyclone! See you in Coney Island!
