Kittens and Cats elicit a response from the internet in a way that cannot be explained. Viral YouTube videos, cats with hats, dressed up and meowing; the internet loves it! Many spend and spend to get the same response and audience that a free upload of someone’s grumpy cat gets. It’s an amazing and somewhat unexplainable fascinating fact. Cats = viewers. The suspect part of it is that people don’t seem to love cats that much outside of the internet. Cat owners often get a bad rap and people don’t seem to relate to them like they do with dogs.

We’re excited to be talking about cats today because our office kitty is getting social! Finally, New York City has a cat café! Cat cafés started in Asia in the 90s due to small apartment sizes and landlords that didn’t allow pets in residences. These establishments allowed people to interact with cats in a home-like setting without the long term responsibilities.

Now, New York City can do the same on the Lower East Side. Meow Parlour has opened up on 46 Hester Street and is the first of its kind in Manhattan. That alone is rare!

At Meow Parlour, you can rent time to access to their space, where adoptable free roaming cats try to come home with you. You can go in for as little as half an hour so you can just pet the cats or stay for up to five hours where you can use their free Wi-Fi while a cat naps next to you.

What’s better than cats and treats? The Meow Parlour Patisserie will be serving delectable goodies for you! Christina Ha is the Co-Founder and head Pastry Chef at the popular patisserie, Macaron Parlour. A graduate of the Institute of Culinary Education Pastry & Baking Program and the Culinary Management Program, Christina combined her passion for baking and her adoration for cats to bring you some awesome treats you won’t find anywhere else!

Before you call us the weird cat people, go check out these beauties downtown!
