New Yorkers love their movies! Fortunately, the area hosts many film festivals throughout the year, especially in the fall. Another great festival is coming up October 3-13. And you don’t have to be Greek! New York Greek Film Expo is a film festival for all New Yorkers.

Presented by Hellenic Film Society USA (HFS), the Expo features screenings of the latest films from Greece at three area theaters: October 3-6 at Village East Cinema in Manhattan; October 8-9 at the Barrymore Film Center in Fort Lee, NJ; and October 11-13 at the prestigious Museum of the Moving Image (MoMI) in Astoria, NY. This year’s event is hosted by Award-winning Greek Actor Thanos Tokakis, who has two 2023 films in the lineup.  The Consul General of Greece in New York will host a conversation with Tokakis at the Greek Consulate in Manhattan on Monday, October 7 at 6:30 pm.

Throughout the Expo, see 13 screenings of nine feature films and one short. All films are in Greek with English subtitles. On opening night, HFS will honor actress Vangelio Andreadaki with a Lifetime Achievement Award. Other Expo highlights include a fabulous opening night reception. Throughout the festival, meet filmmakers from Greece whose films are being shown, as they participate in audience Q&As. Two films, Animal (2023) and Fonissa (2023), will be presented in a special partnership with New York Women in Film & Television (NYWIFT).

The New York Greek Film Expo 2024 is made possible through the support of the Kallinikeion Foundation, Stavros Niarchos Foundation (SNF), Axia Spirit, Microsoft, ConnectOne Bank, NYWIFT (New York Women in Film & Television), the New York City Council, New York City Tourism Foundation, the Queens Borough President, and Flushing Town Hall.

HFS is dedicated to promoting Greek cinema throughout the United States. Their mission is to share the richness of Greek films with a wider American audience, to showcase Greek movies, and to preserve the film heritage of Greece.
