Forged out of the primordial soup of Afrobeat, ’70s instrumental funk, and black venom, the Budos Band is liquid hot magma for your ears. Emerging from the bubbling morass of Staten Island, these infernal creatures of the night pack megatons of voodoo soul into unabashedly down-at-the-heels grooves, like free-falling off the Verrazano-Narrows Bridge using an anaconda as a bungee cord. By day, three of the band members are public school teachers, baritone saxophonist Jared Tankel is an entertainment lawyer, and percussionist John Carbonella is a graphic designer–but when the sun goes down over the Hudson, beware the mark of the beast.
