at The Metropolitan Museum of Art (1000 Fifth Avenue, New York City)

In 2001, composer William Basinski set about transferring his early works from reels of tape to the hard drive of his computer, but as this process preserved the taped recordings, it also destroyed them, slowly scratching away their contents. The Disintegration Loops is the sound of this erasure, and this afternoon, the ten year anniversary also of the day Basinski finished his transfers (an ominous coincidence if their ever was one) the Wordless Music Orchestra will premiere a live version of loops to close the Metropolitan Museum of Art’s “Remembering September 11” program.
