Party Face is a new comedy playing off-Broadway where you will get to see something that you might recognize because it comes from familiar faces that have been in your life for a long time. Academy Award winner Hayley Mills of The Parent Trap and Saved By The Bell is on the stage starring in this amazing play. You may also know the Writer – Isobel Mahon of Glenroe and Fair City. And, if you were a fan of Married With Children, then you know surely know Amanda Bearse or Marcy.
The show opened on January 22nd and will run until April 8th at City Center Stage II at 131 West 55th Street (btwn 6th & 7th Aves). Attending this show will give you a chance to see something that will be completely different from any other musical or play that you have seen in the past. However, you will recognize the Party Face that you have most likely put on yourself.
Party Face will bowl you over as it brings together old and new. It brings together mothers and their daughters in dynamics anyone can relate to, but it uses a birthday party as its backdrop. It will shock you because you will relate to how some of these characters feel and act. As in life, everyone has a backstory and this play exposes it in completely different ways. There is the party face that all these women have to put on just to make sure they can get through the night, but all those faces will start to crack the longer they stay. You will laugh and howl as you watch these women try to hold it together.
Isobel Mahon is a brilliant Irish playwright who has brought to life the family dynamics that mothers and their daughters face every day. She brings you a study in how people deal with their emotions, and it shows how many generations of women in the same family will get through the days that they think will never end. The Party Face that these women have to put on shows you their incredible acting, and it helps them get through a night that will have you laughing and crying as they all try to play it cool.
Mahon has brought this play over from Ireland where it is playing to sold out theaters. The reviews have been incredible, and now you get to see a glimpse of it in the City Center Stage II so that you can come into New York and see something great. You get to see one of the most iconic actresses and Academy Award Winner in Hayley Mills, and you get to see a brilliant Director bring show you something you already know but probably never talked about.
