With all the chatter about outdoor movies, we often lose focus of a time when great movies are being released. Sure, you can watch all your favorite classics like Saturday Night Fever in Bryant Park but you won’t see anything new.

I’ve grappled with reasons why new, great movies are released in the summer. Why would the studios release movies when it’s the season we wait for all year. Sure, part of my thought process is biased as I am in the northeast and the entire world does not have the same seasons.

After enough pondering, I’ve come up with a good reason…rainy days! That’s it! Save summer blockbusters for the rainy days.

Lucky for us (bad for the box office), there have not been many rainy days in New York this summer. However, with this week looking gloomy, I decided to put together a list of the new releases this summer.

Note that there are 28 of them and there may not be 28 rain days before the end of the summer but maybe you can do a couple of two-fers this week and knock some off the list.

In no particular order, here are some of the Summer 2014 blockbusters!

Rain Rain…go away (but come back every so often).
