Often a controversial topic of conversation and definitely something to debate with family during holiday dinners, the inevitable opening of more casinos in New York.

Whether you like the idea or not, it’s been happening and more are coming. Recently, our Governor helped approve an $800 million resort with a casino, 18-story hotel, indoor-outdoor water park, conference center, cabins and hiking trails on the grounds of the old Concord property.

If you don’t know what the Concord is, then you’re definitely younger than us (damn millennials). The Concord was an institution that was the center of the Catskills heyday.

We support the Catskills, Dirty Dancing and anything else that comes with it. Therefore, we are particularly excited about this news. The Concord closed in 1998 so it will be great for the community and hopefully will revive the region as a weekend destination for us city folk.

Just to give you an idea of the Catskills that was. Joan Rivers, Lou Goldstein, and Woody Allen all performed there. How awesome would it be to bring that type of talent back to a destination less than 3 hours away?

This may be the complement to Atlantic City. Summers at the shore and Winters at the mountains. With the option to ski and take advantage of all that surrounds the mountain activities, adding in talented entertainment, delicious food and yes, casinos could bring us back to the ‘Dirty Dancing Days’.
