This weekend packs a serious punch for the New York baseball fans out there. The Subway Series kicks off this Friday and brings the Mets of Queens and the Yankees of the Bronx together for a passion-fueled, rivalry-packed set. Whether you’re a diehard Yankees fan, a loyal follower of the Mets, or just want to get in on the excitement, watching these games will spice up your weekend.

The Mets and Yankees have been meeting head to head in the regular season since interleague play was introduced in 1997. The two teams faced off for a Subway Series World Series in 2000, with the Yankees coming away victorious. This year, the Yankees started off less than stellar, but they’re creeping back up in the standings. The Mets, on the other hand, surprised everyone with a fast start, and they’ve hovered around first place to date in the season. They even recently notched the first no-hitter in team history. Not bad for a team projected to finish last.

You don’t have to be a baseball fan to enjoy the action. The Subway Series speaks to the true New Yorker’s penchant for action, history, and, well, bragging rights. So no matter if you’re lucky enough to score tickets or plan to catch the games with friends in a bar, watching this weekend is the way to go.
