2020 has been hugely frustrating for sports fan all over the world, so many of us are looking forward eagerly to 2021.
If you are going to be in New York next year, then there are always sports events to catch. If you love free daily NBA betting picks, the Big Apple is home to the Brooklyn Nets and New York Knicks.
Still, besides basketball, there is much more going on in NY City. Check it out the top main events that should be happening in 2021.
New York Yankees and Mets Games
A trip to see the Yankees is a must for any sports fan visiting New York. If you can’t get a ticket for a game, then the next best thing is a tour of the famous Yankee Stadium.
With 27 World Championships to their name, the Yankees are possibly the most iconic and successful team in any American sport, as well as being the first MLB team that most people think of. The 2020 MLB season was reduced due to the Covid pandemic, but plans for 2021 are already in place.
This season will begin with the All-star Game on July 13 and carry on through to the World Series that could end with game 7, if needed, on November 3. The Yankees start and end their season at home, with other highlights being the games against the Boston Red Sox at the start of June and an Easter Sunday (April 4) game against the Blue Jays.
The New York Mets also play in the city. Although they compete in a different league from the Yankees, the teams meet each year in inter-league games and the rivalry between their fans is intense. The best way to bet on MLB games could be to check out both of these teams and choose one to follow.
The 2021 Belmont Stakes
The 2020 version of this iconic race took place with no crowds in place. At the moment, the 2021 event should have spectators at it, and it will take place between June 4 and 6 at Belmont Park in New York.
Tickets and packages are already on sale online for anyone who is keen to get back to a big horse racing competition.
Known as the Test of the Champion, it is the final leg of the Triple Crown after the Kentucky Derby and the Preakness Stakes, which adds even more tension to the occasion. Typically, as many as 20 million people will watch it on live television while over 80,000 more can cram into the venue.
The first Belmont Stakes was held in 1866, so it is a hugely historic race that will be run for the 153rd time in 2021. The winner in 2020 was Tiz the Law, who became the first winning horse from New York in this race for well over a century, with Forester the last home winner way back in 1882.
The 2021 US Tennis Open
2020 was the 140th time that this important tennis event took place. It was held at the USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center in Queens and Dominic Thiem and Naomi Osaka won the men’s and women’s titles, respectively. It is fair to say that it was overshadowed by the coronavirus, as games were played behind closed doors and with some big names missing.
2021 promises a return to normal, with crowds expected to be back to add the usual thrilling atmosphere to the event. It will take place from August 30 through to September 12 and we expect the main stars of the sport to be back for it after 2020’s relatively low-key turn-out.
Tickets are available for diverse locations like the Louis Armstrong Stadium and the Arthur Ashe Stadium. If you love watching the world’s best sports stars in action then there are plenty of different packages that let you choose exactly how to do it.
